Day 68 Wednesday 17th April 2013, Location; Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park

Day at camp.

RELAXATION AHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Day 67 Tuesday 16th April, Location Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park

Today we had a rather lazy morning, showers, cleaning etc before heading in to Sale to do the shopping.

Major restock as we have only done little bits here and there for a while. Off to Safeway, ouch at the check out, we then headed back home to camp via the Swing Bridge.

Wow what a marvel of engineering. It is amazing, toll roads even back then to pay for bridges.

We decided to take the long road back and call in via Golden Beach and Paradise Beach. Both are very quaint little coastal holiday towns.

Rena loved the playground at Golden Beach and found a little boy to play with. We had trouble getting her back in the car, but we needed to get back to camp as it was now well after 4 pm

We called in toe the Tribuclo wreck, there is not much to see above the sand now, I imagine that it will not be long at all and you will not be able to see this wreck. James found his geocache, so back in the car and back to camp.

Back at camp and sort out the groceries and have a very hot cup of tea, ahhhhhh

Day 66 Monday 15th April, Location; Gippsland Lakes Coast Park

Today we set up camp to stay for a week, so annex up and also the side walls. It is amazing what you can make do with what you want to. The Gazebo walls make great annex walls for the camper and are very light weight and compact too.

We then went and explored a bit, nice little campspot behind the dune with a pit toilet. And it had paper too. There was a little bit of rubbish in the bush from the previous campers when you looked, even was an office chair, what you would want with one of them whilst you are camping is beyond me. Why cant some people take home what they bring.

There really is no reason for leaving rubbish here over the summer holiday period as the council provide a weekly rubbish collection service.

Anyway nag over, time to do some hand washing, about 2 hours later and clothes all washed, Renas sheets & bedding all washed too.

Time to sit back and relax for a little bit.

Day 65 Sunday 14th April 2013, Location; Balley Hooley Campground

I got up early to explore and take photos, well worth getting up early, what a pristine place. Beautiful!!!! WOW WOW WOW, well worth the drive here.

Pack up and off to Buchan Caves.

We arrived at Buchan Caves with about 1 1/2 hours to kill before the next cave tour so we bought our tickets, looked through the visitor centre and then let Rena play in the playground whilst I made lunch. James went and did another geocache.

Lunch had we drove up to the Royal Cave and parked and walked up and waited for the tour to start.
Well words will never describe what we saw, at every turn there was something to see and wow doesnt cover it.

After the tour we headed up and over the hill to the Fairy Cave and waited for our guide (who had just done the previous tour with us) and with fewer in this group no one would put their hand up to be the lead, and well Rena was volunteered, :) she was happy about this, so she got her instructions and off we headed in to the cave first. this was great for me and i was basically the first person to see anything.

As with the previous cave WOW doesnt even start to explain this cave, it is truely spectacular and if you are in Victoria I highly recommend coming and seeing it. Very reasonably priced too. (Rena got in for free).

So glad that I bought the book on the Caves, so much of what they tell you whilst on the tour you forget, so glad I got the book.

We certainly got our exercise in today between the 2 caves and the over the hill walk and my early morning walk.

After the coast we headed towards the coast again, needed a free camp to hang out at for a couple of days until we either hear form the real estate agent or the insurance company. This time we headed to Ninety Mile Beach and chose to camp down near the township of Seaspray.

Arrived at the campspot about 5 pm and with rain approaching we set up for an overnight camp and then had dinner just made it inside before the storm hit and the heavens opened up.

Day 64 Saturday 13th April, Location: Snowy River Rest Area

Well last night at 4.59pm we got an email from our real estate agent advising us that our tenants had done the Harrold E Holt, and well we are now without tenants in the house. It was time to take stock, check our accounts and have a review of our trip and plans.

That done we packed up and headed for Lakes Entrance to have a look around and visit the laudrymat.  (The curse of travellers).

Found the laundrymat ok, and put on washing $18 for 2 loads, and went and checked out the local discount shop, got myself a mini whisk and Rena a small bucket and spade. That done Bakery, cant break tradition and bought lunch.

Back to laundrymat to eat lunch and check on washing, moved clothes into the dryers, and James headed out to do some geocaching. The dryers cost me $21 OUCH!! The machines were all new and imaculate and well maintained so cant understand why it cost so much.

After that we headed over to the walkway to the beach, last time I walked this it was the old bridge, must say that the new bridge is very nice. Rena and I used the facilities and whilst waiting for James snuck into the kiosk and got an ice cream each.

Went and checked out the beach, not many waves today and a bit overcast, but still beautiful. On the way back to the car we called in to the trawler that was selling fresh prawns, I hummed and hared as they didnt look all that fresh, but as James was keep I bought half a kilo.

Back to the car and off to Buchan then to head east to Balley Hooley Campground. James flew past the turn off and well half a hour later decided that maybe we should turn around, anyway we finally arrived at camp on dusk and set up with impending rain, Whilst I cooked dinner James and Rena went for a walk and managed to spot a wombat. It was a smaller one than they had seen before. No photos :(

I went to bed early tonight as I was not feeling well at all. I had one of those days if I was at home I would have spent it in bed, felt really sick all day but kept smiling and trooping on for the family. :)

Day 63 Friday 12th April 2013, Location: Scrubby Creek Recreation Area

Last night even with our campsite being right next to the highway we had a good nights sleep.

We packed up and headed further south, it wasnt long and we crossed the state line. Yep we is south of the boarder now.

The drive is very hilly but very beautiful.

We took a left and headed out to Cape Conran. 1st stop was East Cape, and then on to Sailors Grave, the reef out from here took many a life, so that is why it is called sailors grave. It is a 2 meter pinnacle sitting out in the middle of the ocean, would be hard to see it in calm seas little know rough seas.

We then headed over to West Cape, wow, then we headed over to Joiners Cover and then homestead site. Not much is left of the homestead, only some of the chimney. Boy she must have been a remarkable woman to live here with her husband. Very remote, very ruggard coastline, and very windy.

At Joiners Cove you can see where Joiner blasted out the rocks to create a safe place to more his boat, you can also see his cray coff to keep his lobsters.

Next point of call was Salmon Cove. Another spectacular spot, I can see why this spot is so popular in summer.

Next stop was Frenchs Narrows, this is the Snowy River Estuary. The Snowy River meets the ocean here. Is has a really good walking track and if you are so inclined you can walk from here to Marlo and in the other direction all the way to Cape Conran.

We decided to stop at Marlo and have a bite to eat for a late lunch. We headed north to our campspot for the night, which is about 10 klms out of town. It was beside the snowy river. There are a number areas along the river that you can camp at.

Whilst we were having a cuppa a local came and told us about some free camps by the snowy river, might try one of them out.

I had to get up in the middle of the night as I couldnt sleep there was a funny noise coming from outside a pop pop pop pop and well it got the better of me, so at 1am here I am in my pjs down at the river looking at little fingerlings jumping there were thousands of them, I was wishing that there were prawns, but we were too far from the coast for that :(.

Back to bed, mystery solved time for sleep.

Days 60 - 62 Tuesday 9th - Thursday 11th April 2013, Location: Brou Lake

Tuesday 9th
Day of relaxtion :) Used the dream pot to cook an upside down apple cake mmmmm and then used the camp oven to cook some scones. :) yummmmyyyy

Wednesday 10th
Another day of relaxing and getting ready to move on tomorrow.  It will be sad to move on tomorrow as this really is a beautiful spot to camp, you have the ocean waves soothing you off to sleep, the safety of the lake for kids to swim in. :) And well the wildlife is very friendly too. Just ask Rena, she had her hand out pretending to feed one so I could get a photo and it bit her finger. :) Is a bit more cautious now when mum says put your hand out so I can take a photo.

Thursday 11th April
Today we packed up and left Brou Lake, :( sad to leave as is a beautiful spot, was so nice and warm. Time to move on.

First stop was at the Bodalla Forest Park to drop off the rubbish, what a nice find. If you cant make it in to Brou Lake stopping here wouldnt be half bad either. The park has toilets, lots of covered tables and fresh drinking water. So we took the opportunity to fill up all our water tanks etc before heading off again.

We decided that we would take the coast road. A wise decision the coast road is quite beautiful. We were amazed at Murrah and the old bridge. We continued down the coast road until Tathra and then headed to Bega as I wanted to take James and Rena to the Bega Cheese factory. I remember going there as a kid and actually going on the factory floor and helping make cheese. As an adult I went there and looked at the factory from above through glass. Today well you get to visit the historical centre and get to sample some very small pieces of cheese and buy some but you can not do the factory tour any more :(.

We tasted some of the cheeses and bought some as they were on special and very good value. Next stop Eden as I want to go see the Killer Whale Museum.

Called in to the Ben Boyd National Park and have a quick look at The Pinnacles. Reminds me a bit of the Coloured Sands Beach a bit. Then on to Eden.

Arrived at Eden, it is a town that is not RV nor Trailer friendly. There was no where to park at the museum so we had to go park in the pub car park and walk down to the museum. As they have funny opening hours we got there at 3 pm and they basically said come back tomorrow we close in half an hour. We said sorry wont be here tomorrow. So you guessed it, I didnt get to see the museum.

We did a very quick tour/look at the historical wharf as the heavens were very dark and grey and it was starting to rain. We then drove up to the top of the hill and went to The Look Out. As there had been burn offs in the area the visability was quite limited. You could just make out things on the other side of the bay.

Called in to the IGA, thank goodness for market day, so stocked up on a few things that were on special including the BBQ chook, yay dont have to cook dinner in the rain tonight. :)

On to camp for the night, set up camper, just finished dinner and you guessed it, it started to rain, so in the camper we went. Early night tonight, it is cold and wet :(
