Last night even with our campsite being right next to the highway we had a good nights sleep.
We packed up and headed further south, it wasnt long and we crossed the state line. Yep we is south of the boarder now.
The drive is very hilly but very beautiful.
We took a left and headed out to Cape Conran. 1st stop was East Cape, and then on to Sailors Grave, the reef out from here took many a life, so that is why it is called sailors grave. It is a 2 meter pinnacle sitting out in the middle of the ocean, would be hard to see it in calm seas little know rough seas.
We then headed over to West Cape, wow, then we headed over to Joiners Cover and then homestead site. Not much is left of the homestead, only some of the chimney. Boy she must have been a remarkable woman to live here with her husband. Very remote, very ruggard coastline, and very windy.
At Joiners Cove you can see where Joiner blasted out the rocks to create a safe place to more his boat, you can also see his cray coff to keep his lobsters.
Next point of call was Salmon Cove. Another spectacular spot, I can see why this spot is so popular in summer.
Next stop was Frenchs Narrows, this is the Snowy River Estuary. The Snowy River meets the ocean here. Is has a really good walking track and if you are so inclined you can walk from here to Marlo and in the other direction all the way to Cape Conran.
We decided to stop at Marlo and have a bite to eat for a late lunch. We headed north to our campspot for the night, which is about 10 klms out of town. It was beside the snowy river. There are a number areas along the river that you can camp at.
Whilst we were having a cuppa a local came and told us about some free camps by the snowy river, might try one of them out.
I had to get up in the middle of the night as I couldnt sleep there was a funny noise coming from outside a pop pop pop pop and well it got the better of me, so at 1am here I am in my pjs down at the river looking at little fingerlings jumping there were thousands of them, I was wishing that there were prawns, but we were too far from the coast for that :(.
Back to bed, mystery solved time for sleep.
